New vehicle sales have decreased with overall sales in September 2016 lowering to14.3% compared to the same month last year. Naamsa expects the negative sales trend to continue over the medium term, given the current economic climate. The fall in sales are largely due to the ever increasing cost of new car prices.

Another Fuel Hike in November
With international oil prices on the rise and the rand's depreciation after Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan was summoned to court on fraud charges may mean a substantial increase in fuel prices once again in November.
At time of writing at the end of October 2016 motorists were paying R12.12 at the coast and R12.60 in Gauteng for 95 Octane petrol, while 0.05ppm diesel sold for between R10.33 and R10.71. In November, they could be looking at an increase of 50c for petrol.
